Ca'n Beneït's Estate
Together with Son Mestre, it was the main property of the Binibona hamlet. This hamlet earlier called Benimala and later Benibona denotes its remote origin, prior to the conquest of Majorca in 1229 by King Jaime I, when he established the island as a Kingdom.
Before the conquest, Majorca was under Muslim domination for many decades, that’s why so many different places keep the Arabic word bini (farmhouse or house of …). It can therefore be deduced that Binibona already existed before the 13th century
The king, would award the place to one of his knights who accompanied him in the conquest, the Marquis of Palmer.
The village of Binibona reached in the first third of the 20th century, as our grandparents tell us, a notorious resurgence. In it there were about 30 inhabited houses and about 10 scattered that corresponded to the neighboring properties and neighborhoods.
The means of subsistence of its inhabitants were based on agriculture, which was their main occupation. The small nucleus of Binibona, belonging to the municipality of Selva , after the Spanish Civil War (1936 – 1939) and after the Second World War (1939 – 1945) suffered the exodus of its inhabitants who easily found better paid jobs in the capital and main populations of the island fleeing from slavery and effort involved in working in the fields. This was promoted thanks to the development that was reaching both the industrial sector, the construction and tourism sectors.
The recent resurgence of Binibona is observed in the reconstruction of the dilapidated houses by new residents in post of their second home and already at the end of the 20th century with the conversion of some old estates into agrotourism.
Such is the case of Finca Ca’n Beneït, after 20 years as agrotourism, the family that owns the property, passes the reins to a new generation of hoteliers specialized in the rural tourism sector, although the family is still linked to the farm cooperating with livestock and extra virgin olive oil production, whose oil mill is still in operation.
